This is one of the most useful things a local celebrant can tell you, and it varies by season. In winter (June, July, August), the light is beautiful earlier in the day and the temperature is perfect for afternoon ceremonies. I recommend starting around 2pm — you get that gorgeous winter sun for the ceremony and photos, and enough time for golden hour before the reception begins. In summer (December, January, February), the afternoon light is more intense and summer storms can roll in quickly. I recommend a 3pm or later start — the heat has eased, the light is softer, and you’re set up beautifully for that warm, magical evening atmosphere the mountain does so well. The shoulder seasons — April, May, September, October, November — are the mountain’s most popular and most spectacular months. The mountain shifts moods beautifully — brilliant sunshine, rolling mist, or a full cloud embrace that turns everything ethereal. I don’t fight the weather, I plan for it. Every outdoor ceremony has a wet weather alternative locked in, and I know how to transition smoothly without it becoming a drama. Some of the most beautiful ceremonies I’ve done here started with the mountain sitting in cloud and the guests not wanting to be anywhere else on earth. Guests arrive early and explore. The mountain is a destination in itself and your guests know it. They’ll wander the Gallery Walk, stop at a distillery, walk to the falls. Build a little flexibility into your ceremony timing and it becomes part of the magic rather than a logistical headache. Sound matters in rainforest settings. The canopy absorbs sound differently than open spaces. I bring my own professional PA system to every ceremony so every word lands clearly — whether we’re in a garden, an amphitheatre, or under a canopy of fig trees. The roads are part of the experience.
